Jimmy Earl Hagar

1941-2021

Jimmy Earl Hagar was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, veteran and friend.  He passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 19, 2021 at the age of 79.

Jimmy was born to Earl and Eleanor 'Foxie' Hagar on October 20, 1941 in Centralia, Illinois. He graduated high school in 1959 and then joined the Air Force where he served his country for 28 years.  He married JaNean Jones on June 2, 1961, and their 60 year marriage was blessed with 2 children, Chris and Tonya.

Jim loved people and his family. He never met a stranger.  They spent 2 weeks every summer traveling the nation in their pop up camper for family vacations, square dance events, and exploring national parks.  He loved country music, the Dallas Cowboys and the OU Sooners.

Jimmy was a lifelong volunteer.  He was a little league coach before his own kids were born, and later coached teams for both Chris and Tonya.  He would go on to work as a baseball and softball umpire for many years in the Edmond area. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, and served Troop 77 of the Boy's Scouts of America, mentoring scouts including his son, nephews and grandsons.  He also acted as Archery Master for various summer camps and spent many seasons working as the coordinator of the ushering program at OU football games.  Later in life he volunteered with the Edmond Historical Society & Museum.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, JaNean, his children, Chris and Laurie Hagar of Kingfisher, Tonya and Briton Garman of Edmond, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and countless other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 9am to 8pm, Saturday, October 23rd at Matthews Funeral Home.

Jimmy will be honored with a celebration of life on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 10am at the First United Methodist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma.  A short graveside service including military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
