Jo Ann Wilson, age 93, of Edmond, Oklahoma, went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2026. Jo Ann was born on October 24, 1932, to Vanis and Opal Fruit in Custer County, OK, 10 miles west of Custer City. Her family moved to Oakwood when she was 6, and it was there she gave her heart to Christ at 12 years of age at Oakwood Christian Church. She graduated from Oakwood High School in 1950 as Valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation, she enrolled in Western Oklahoma State Hospital School of Nursing in Clinton. Between semesters of her last year of nursing school, Jo Ann married the love of her life, Sandy Wilson, on December 20, 1952. After graduating in 1953 and passing her state nursing boards, she moved to Ponca City to be with Sandy, who was employed by Conoco and began her work as a nurse. Jo Ann found her calling in nursing and was skilled in many fields – from OB-GYN, emergency room, private practice, and teaching the next generation. Sandy and Jo Ann resided in Ponca City for 41 years, where they raised 2 sons, Dan and Allen, and served in the church and community.
Upon her retirement in 1993, Sandy and Jo Ann moved to Edmond to be closer to their family. They became faithful members of Quail Springs Baptist Church and loved being part of this church family. Edmond is where they made countless memories with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in the latter years of their lives. Sandy and Jo Ann enjoyed 64 wonderful years of marriage until Sandy’s passing in January 2017.
Though Jo Ann achieved and accomplished incredible things throughout her lifetime, her favorite title was always, Granny. Being Granny to her 6 grandchildren, their spouses, and 11 (almost 12) great-grandchildren brought her endless joy. In fact, she introduced herself as Granny to nearly all who met her. She was faithful in attending any kind of event that her family took part in – from church and school programs to endless nights at the ball field. Her love for the Lord and her love for her family was always present, consistent, and gracious. She had a servant’s heart and was a kind and compassionate friend to countless people. Granny always took an interest in what you had to say and usually responded with a witty remark. Her humor, heart, and faith will live on for generations to come.
She is survived by her sons, Dan (Beth) & Allen (Sandy), all of Edmond, six grandchildren, Katie (Chad) Stuewe, Jonathan (Jamie) Wilson, David (Natasha) Wilson, Bekah (Cameron) Capps, Bryan (Chelsea) Wilson and Mallory (Kyle) Stone; eleven great-grandchildren (with the 12th due in February 2027), her sister-in-law Margaret Fruit and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 am, Friday, October 16th, at Quail Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Quail Springs Baptist Church.
