JOAN R. ROGERS

Joan (Jo) Rogers passed away peacefully on March 23, 2016.  After her ALS diagnosis in November, Joan inspired us all by saying "I choose to be grateful and happy."  She was born on Oct. 15. 1927 in Seiling, OK to Alva and Lowa Russell where she was raised with her 4 sisters on the family farm.  Jo married William Paul Lively Jr. in 1944.  They settled in OKC where they raised their 3 children, Benny, Sue, and Scott Lively.  After Jr's death, Jo continued working hard to provide for her family.  In 1971, she married Charlie Rogers and later opened "Charlie's His & Hers" Sportswear.  After retiring, they became "House boaters" on Kerr Lake where they had many friends.  After Charlie's death, Jo focused on her grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as G-ma.  She loved sewing, reading, doing crossword puzzles and watching John Wayne Marathons.  Jo was famous for the Mac & Cheese and pies made for her family.  Jo endured great tragedy in her life.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Scott and Benny, granddaughter Kim, great grandson, Christopher, and sisters Shirley Boswell and Gladys DeVine.  Jo is survived by Sue Shiplet and husband Kent, Susan Lively Long, Yvonne Lively, grandchildren Sean Shiplet and wife Heather, Jennifer Muir and husband Phil, Scotty Lively and wife Heidi, Katie Lively, Brian Lively, and Lori Schapansky .  Also great grandchildren Kaylee, Macyn, Cole, and Carter Grace.  We appreciate the family and friends who provided care in Jo's last few weeks.  Special thanks to the Good Shepherd Hospice staff who provided loving care for Joan.  Viewing will start at 10 a.m. and the family will be present to greet friends from 6-8:00 PM March 28 th at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, and interment on March 29 th at 11:00 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, OK.
