John Wesley Ashmon
1933-2017
John Wesley Ashmon was born on March 26, 1933 in Crescent, OK to John Lehman Ashmon and Naomi Mae Brown. He passed away on January 10, 2017 at the age of 83.
He attended school in Guthrie, OK. He married Juanita Embrey on August 9, 1952. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard from 1950-1985 including serving in the Korean War. John retired as a CW4. He was employed as a mechanic for Edmond Public Schools from 1985-1995. Favorite pastimes included fishing and gardening.
John was active in the nursing home ministry for over 40 years. He was a charter member and deacon of Waterloo Road Baptist Church. He also served as a greeter and was in the "Salty Seniors" ministry group.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Wanda Gibbs Davis, brother Dewey William Ashmon, and great-grandson Levi Bergren. He is survived by Juanita Ashmon, his wife of 64 years, daughter Debbie Bergren and husband Marc of Edmond, son David and wife Shelley of Guthrie, grandchildren Steven Bergren and wife Cindy, Allison Wilson, Candace Haszto and husband Michael, all of Edmond, and David Wesley Ashmon of OKC. Also survived by five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Public Viewing will be held Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Waterloo Road Baptist Church in Edmond, OK. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Summit View cemetery in Guthrie, OK.
