John Wallace Cherry

November 30, 1946 — November 30, 2024

John Wallace Cherry, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was 77 years old.

Born June 29, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Fred and Virginia Cherry, John moved to Edmond in 1950, where he remained a lifelong resident. He attended Edmond schools and built a life deeply rooted in the community. In 1966, he married Jacqueline (Jackie) Martin. Together they raised four children: Hollie, Chad, Jake, and Rye. Following Jackie's passing, John found happiness again with Karen Thompson, and welcomed two stepsons, Nick and Jeff, into his family. At the time of his death, he cherished spending time with his 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

John dedicated 35 years of his professional life to SBC/A.TT. Beyond his career, he was a skilled entrepreneur, building and managing Cherry Stables. A devoted father and grandfather, he wholeheartedly supported his children's pursuits, from barrel racing and team roping to hunting, fishing, and baseball, continuing his enthusiastic support as a dedicated fan throughout their lives. An avid outdoorsman with a passion for elk hunting and skeet/trap shooting, John embraced the natural world with vigor and enthusiasm.

John will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kind heart, unwavering support, and zest for life will forever be remembered.

A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held at Matthews Funeral Home, on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in his memory.
