John Lee Hobbs

1959-2021

John Lee Hobbs was born on January 13 th 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was raised by PM and Bonnie (Greer) Hobbs in Mangum, Oklahoma. He passed from this life to be with his savior Jesus Christ on September 18 th , 2021 in Oklahoma City.

John grew up with younger brother, Rick, in Mangum. There, John was shaped by the work ethic of his parents who owned and ran Hobbs Grocery. John graduated high school in 1977 and enrolled at Oklahoma State University.

While attending OSU, (a school to which he forever remained loyal and true), John paid his way through school while working full-time at QuikTrip. John was a social man who always appeared larger than life. He loved being surrounded by his friends. He planned get-togethers for them, especially the annual "Calf Fry" – an event he deeply loved that is now entering its 42nd year. It was in Stillwater where he would meet the love of his life, Lisa Ann McMurry. They were married on February 19 th , 1983. John loved a lot of things in this world, but most of all he loved Lisa.

John worked sales jobs following graduation and after a time showcased his greatest skill, leadership. John started and ran a number of successful small businesses. His Dynamark security system franchise became one of the most successful in company history. Safe Zone was eventually bought by security giant ADT. John's employees always felt like family, especially at Max Credit Auto, where John's son-in-law, Sam, learned and helped take over the business. Before starting "Max", John became a full-time sports dad during his kids' high school years. He never missed a competition and could be found rebounding shots in the gym before dawn.

Above all, John strongly believed in taking care of the ones he loved. His passions included golfing, hunting, fishing and diet and exercise. Everyone who loves John, but especially Jeni and Paul, will carry on his legacy for generations to come.

John is survived by his wife, Lisa Ann (McMurry) Hobbs of Edmond, OK, son Paul Hobbs and wife Arpita Saha of Denver, CO, daughter Jeni Kyllingstad and husband Sam and grandchildren Eli and Kate of Edmond, mother Bonnie Hobbs of Mangum, OK, and Brother Richard Hobbs and wife Barbara of Amarillo, TX.

Visitation will be held at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond from 5-7pm on Sept. 23rd. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum, OK. A celebration of life service will be at Matthews Funeral Home on Sept. 24th at 3pm. A Tailgate following the service will be held at the "Redbud Cafe" (the Hobbs home).
