John T. Mattingly
November 12, 1928 – July 23, 2014
John Mattingly, 85, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 23, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born on November 12, 1928 in Loiusville, Kentucky where he was raised on a farm with five siblings before moving to Illinois.
A self-made man from humble beginnings, John enlisted and served in the Navy and was stationed in Memphis, TN. It was there he met the love of his life, Amy Ruth Wall. They married in 1951 and with their four children, lived in various cities throughout the south, settling in Edmond, OK in 1974. John was a successful businessman with a passion for finance. His career included leadership roles at Seabord Finance and Fidelity Bank in Oklahoma City He was also an owner of Pam's Hallmark in Stillwater, OK. During retirement he prepared income taxes, both privately and for Jackson Hewitt. John was an active member of St. John the Baptist church in Edmond. In addition, he was a superior yard task-master and competitive, yet enjoyable golfer.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Amy, 4 children: Steve (DeLyn) of Wichita, KS; Chris (Susan) of Edmond; Jill McCarty (Bo) of OKC; Jan Mattingly (Tiffany Gould) of Birmingham, AL, and 6 grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed. A celebration of John's life will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 28 at St. John the Baptist Church.
