John Wesley McBroom, Jr.

1932 – 2025

John Wesley McBroom, Jr. of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in Murrells Inlet, SC surrounded by his loving daughters. He was born February 18, 1932, in Edmond, OK, son of the late John Wesley McBroom, Sr. and Ruby Emma Connelly McBroom.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Leatrice Ianniruberto McBroom and his second wife, Peggy Helt McBroom; a sister-in-law, Margie McBroom; and son-in-law, Glenn Verost.

He is survived by three daughters Cindy Verost of Murrells Inlet, SC; Cathy Vazquez (Hamilton) of Bonita Springs, FL, and Cheryl Arrabito (Donald) of Dingmans Ferry, PA; one sister, Nancy Moore (John) of Albuquerque, NM; one brother, Donovan McBroom of Moore, OK; grandchildren, Joey Bolduc (McKenzie), Matthew Verost (Missy), Christopher Verost (Courtney), Dylan Arrabito (Anna), Catalina Arrabito; three great grandchildren, Johanna, Macklin, Justin; and many extended family members.

John proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War in the Signal Tower at Pearl Harbor. After graduating from Oklahoma Central State College (now UCO), he worked as a Chemist first for Conoco Inc. and later Tenneco Inc. in New Jersey and would later lead the management group who would acquire Pantasote Polymers. He was also past president of the Society of Plastic Engineers. He enjoyed playing the ukulele, where he would perform at several retirement homes for the residents. He also enjoyed spending time playing golf, savoring a cigar with a good glass of whiskey, as well as reading and watching old movies.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made in John's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, www.t2t.org .

A Memorial Service to celebrate John's life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond, Oklahoma.
