Joseph Oran Leonard, 81, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026.
Joseph was born on December 1, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Harlan and Helena Leonard. He was the fourth of eight children and was raised in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Edmond High School in 1963.
Following graduation, Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. Upon enlistment, he was selected for military intelligence training and was stationed in Korea and later in Panama. He was honorably discharged after faithfully serving his country.
After his military service, Joseph attended Central State College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He went on to build a successful career while living a life guided by faith, integrity, and service to others.
Joseph was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. John the Baptist and St. Monica parishes. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, organizations that reflected his deep commitment to his faith and to serving the Church.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Helena Leonard, and by his siblings, Martha Harlene Pratt, Jerry Leonard, Sarah McEwen, and James Leonard.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Marilyn Leonard; his daughter, Kristin Winterrowd and her husband, Kevin; his stepsons, David Garrett and his wife, Jessica, and Daniel Garrett and his wife, Ashley. He was a proud grandfather to Rachel Bornemann, Andrew Winterrowd, Paul Winterrowd, Lucy Garrett, and Ava Garrett.
He is also survived by his brothers, Jack Leonard, Jeff Leonard, and Mark Leonard, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
Joseph will be remembered for his strong opinions, unwavering faith, love of family, and honorable service to his country. His sense of humor and tales of life will live on in family lore. He will be deeply missed by his family and loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church followed by interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
