Josephine I. Hill

Josephine Iglesias Hill, 98, passed away peacefully August 4th 2026, with her family by her side, in Edmond, OK.

Josephine was a beloved mother, beautiful wife, cherished sister, extraordinary grandmother and a exceptional great-grandmother. She will be missed beyond measure.

She was born in LaFare-les-Oliviers, France, August 20,1927. She immigrated to the United States in 1947 after marrying Army Air Corpman Argus Teel Hill, whom she met while employed at Istres-Le Tubé Air Base, Northwest of Marseille, France.

Josephine's childhood was spent with four sisters and her parents in a two-bedroom home and witnessed the German occupation of France, including her tiny village of LaFare, when she was 12 years old. By the time she was 14, her local schools were closed, and her older sisters were forced to work outside the home to help support the family.

After coming to the United States, she began building her life with her husband of 73 years. She brought much of the European culture into her family and especially her two daughters. She was a gourmet cook and hosted lavish meals and holiday feasts for her family and guests, and was a talented seamstress, while still maintaining her love of adventure, the outdoors and a true zest for life. She traveled back to France often and kept in close contact with her sisters, and several nieces and nephews. She was especially delighted to travel to her sisters' homes with her daughters and introduce landmarks and regions that were meaningful to her.

She also loved Colorado, hiking, camping, fishing, river rafting and 4-wheel drive roads. She and Teel spent many years exploring the state and beautifying their property near Fairplay, Colorado.

She cherished her family, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and especially her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and seldom missed a chance to read her daily devotion and Bible Scripture.

She was preceded in death by her husband Teel, parents Raphael and Jeanne Iglesias, and four sisters, Marie, Anita, Jeanne, and Virtude.

She is survived by her daughters Denise Hill, Gayle Hill Jones and Matt; grandchildren Thomas Maxwell and Vadhy, Mark Maxwell and Stefani, Lindsay Stringer and Colin, Tyler Boren, and Dani; and step grandchildren Haley Jones and Connor Jones; great grandchildren, Solan Maxwell, Josie Stringer, James Stringer and June Stringer.

Her celebration of life and memorial service will be held on August 20th, 2026, which would have been her 99th birthday, at 10:00 AM, First Presbyterian Church of Edmond. 1001 South Rankin, Edmond OK, followed by interment at Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, OK.
