Joyce M. Douglas
1939-2018
Joyce Maxine Douglas was born in Bellville, Texas, on January 27, 1939, to Roy F. and Amy Meinecke, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by a brother, Donald Meinecke, of Harrah, Oklahoma, and three children, Patrick Douglas and Michael Douglas, both of Edmond, and Alicia Rambo, of Dale, Oklahoma. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Rex Douglas of Edmond, Dale and Dillen Rambo, of Houston, Texas, and Rebekah Rambo of Dale. Joyce passed into the loving arms of our Lord on January 6, 2018.
Joyce attended U.S. Grant High School and achieved a Bachelor's degree in Education at Central State College. She taught elementary school until she left to raise a family. She later earned a Master's degree in Special Education from Central State University, graduating with honors. Joyce worked for the state of Oklahoma's Department of Human Services for nearly thirty years.
Even though her chosen profession was unrelated, Joyce was a talented artist and singer. She also loved sewing and gardening and was an avid follower of dog shows. She was a life-long fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and a long-time fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Joyce attended First Baptist Church of Edmond for around twenty years and Henderson Hills Baptist Church for nearly ten. She sang in the choirs of each. At times, she was a Cub Scouts den mother and a special education volunteer.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel Edmond, OK.
