Joyce Hastings Gully

Joyce Hastings Gully, 92, passed away peacefully in Edmond, Oklahoma on October 28, 2025. Joyce was born to Curtis Austin Hastings, Sr. and Lillian Frances (Franklin) Hastings in Brownfield, Texas on January 5, 1933.

Joyce met Bill Gully on an arranged double-date, and the romance blossomed quickly. They set up housekeeping in rural Pottawatomie County, near Dale, OK. Their union was blessed with two children.

She decided in her mid-20’s she would really like to become a teacher. With the support of her husband and extended family, she enrolled at nearby Oklahoma Baptist University. Before long she completed a Bachelors Degree in Education, and was hired by the Shawnee, OK Public School System. A few years later, she added a Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Oklahoma.

Joyce put her teaching skills to use for 32 years before “officially” retiring. But that is not to say that she quit teaching. She continued to teach Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Prison Ministry adult education, and Bible Correspondence courses for several more years.

Joyce was a devoted Christian, who loved all of her family and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis Sr. and Lillian Hastings, her siblings, Curtis Hastings, Jr., Ray Hastings, Dixie Hastings, Jerry Hastings, and Bob Hastings. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband Billy Gene “Bill” Gully.

Joyce is survived by her two children and their spouses, Jay Gully and wife Jeanine Gully , Betty Martin, and husband Jay Martin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Meghan Martin, Meredith (Matthew) Ball, Seth (Derin) Martin, Kelly Mills, Chris (Jennifer) Cheek, and Jake (Hallie) Gully, as well as her great-grandchildren, Audrey, Liam, Kate, Charlie, Henry, and Samuel.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 15, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Road Church of Christ, 2221 E. Memorial Rd, Edmond, OK 73013.
