Julia Marie (Self) Maisch of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on April 6, 2026 after a brief illness.
Julia was born on October 19, 1970, to Fred and Marilyn Self in Oklahoma City. She was the 3rd of their 4 children. She grew up outside of Oklahoma City. She always described her childhood as “wonderful”. Julia graduated Little Axe High School in 1988.
After graduating from high school, she went on to study communications with an emphasis on theatre at the University of Central Oklahoma. After graduation, she decided to head to California at the age of 23 to jumpstart her acting career.
Julia spent 10 years working in LA building her career through TV and film roles.
Her early career began with theater roles in Oklahoma, including work at Carpenter Square Theatre, The Jewel Box Theatre and Shakespeare in the Park.
After 10 years in California, Julia returned home to be closer to her family and pursue local acting opportunities.
In 2010 she met her husband, John Maisch (1970-2022). They were married in 2011 and had one child, Jacoby.
From the time of his birth, Jacoby was the joy of her life, her greatest accomplishment. Julia loved being his doting mom. Whether it was soccer, tennis, or basketball she was his biggest fan. She would push everything aside to make sure he was safe, happy and healthy. To this day the bond they forged transcends her death, but that bond didn’t stop with Jacoby. Her entire family received huge outpourings of her love and affection on a daily basis.
Julia is known to her family as “Juge” or “Aunt Juge”. She never missed a birthday and always called singing the birthday song on your special day. Julia always had a smile on her face and in her voice. She would end a conversation with her loved ones with: “I love you sooooo much!”
In March 2024, Julia met Jerry Bryan. They became engaged December of 2024. Julia, Jerry and Jacoby were ready to become a family. Wedding plans were made until cancer struck. She fought her battle gallantly with the help of family, friends, doctors, and nurses. She fought hard until her little body had no more fight left. That’s when this world lost a beautiful soul.
Julia was predeceased by her husband, John in March 2022.
Julia is survived by her son, Jacoby Maisch(14) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Father and mother, Fred and Marilyn Self of Newalla, Oklahoma, Sister, Larenda (Self) and Mike Mattocks of Newalla, Oklahoma, Sister, Salena (Self) and James Claborn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Brother, Fred ‘Skip’ and Shandelle Self of Newalla, Oklahoma, Niece, Kelsie (Self) and Michael Butts of Norman, Oklahoma, Niece, Kenzie (Self) and Jimmy Healy of Edmond, Oklahoma, Nephew, Ryley and Kolbi Claborn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Niece, Berkley (Claborn) and Ben Rowland of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nephew, Brodey and Abigail Claborn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Niece, Kylie (Mattocks) and Cody Cox of McLoud, Oklahoma, Chaz and Jami Mattocks of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Ann Maisch (sister in law) of Oklahoma City and many great nephews and nieces.
