Karen Sue (Taylor) Harmon was born in Bluejacket, Oklahoma on June 10, 1941, to Ross and Grace (Walker) Taylor. She would call the nearby community of Timber Hill her home for many of her childhood years. It was at Timber Hill where she attended a one-room schoolhouse, played with numerous cousins, and was baptized into Jesus Christ in a muddy creek. After several moves around northeast Oklahoma and Colorado, she graduated from Union High School in Tulsa.
After high school, Karen made her way to Oklahoma Christian College where she earned an Associate’s Degree. More importantly, she also earned the affections of a young man named Bob. The two were married in 1961 and would be inseparable for the next 59 years. Together they created a warm, loving, Christian home for their children, Rob and Suzie. They made an eternal impact not only on their children, but also on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
That loving home extended to countless others because of Karen’s hospitality and generosity. Multiple generations of college students knew they could drop by to enjoy a home cooked meal, take a swim or just hang out and talk about life. That hospitality extended to other groups including the New Beginnings class which Bob and Karen led at the Memorial Road Church of Christ.
Karen was very generous. Growing up in the poor community of Timber Hill, she knew what it was like to live without essential items. So, as God blessed her, she blessed others. A major recipient of that generosity was the community of Luther, Oklahoma. Her work with the Luther Community Service Center was a passion of hers for many decades. Up until the day before her passing, she was asking questions about taking care of the children in Luther.
Karen had many hobbies including cooking, hosting people in her home and collecting pigs. By far her biggest hobby was going through life with her husband, Bob. She was at his side for daily living, for vacations and for pastoral counseling of others. She was by his side until he passed away in 2020. And now, she is by his side once again in the arms of Jesus.
Karen is survived her son, Rob (Jo) Harmon of Edmond, daughter Suzie (Darrin) Saffell of Keller, Texas, her brother Rudy (Kathy) Taylor of Caney, Kansas, her grandchildren Courtney (Alec) Schaffner, Katelynn Harmon, Ross (Tori) Saffell, Austin (Erica) Harmon, and great-grandchildren Judah, Jordan and Joanna Saffell and Taylor and Jaycee Schaffner.
A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held at the Memorial Road Church of Christ on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 am.
