Karen J. Johns
January 29, 1945 – January 25, 2025
Karen Jane Hamilton was born on January 29, 1945, in Blackwell, OK to Lula Pearl Hackney. She was raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Stella and Elmer Childers. Karen attended Blackwell Public Schools where she graduated in 1963. She then attended Northern Oklahoma College before beginning a career in the oil and gas industry that lasted until her retirement in 2013. She married David A Johns (AKA Pete) on June 1, 1968, at the Blackwell Church of Christ. Pete and Karen moved from Ponca City to Edmond, OK in August of 1968. Pete and Karen welcomed a daughter, Jennifer in 1973 and a son, Jeffrey, in 1981. She was an active member of Dayspring Church of Christ where she spread joy teaching the youngest members of the congregation. Karen passed away January 25th at Integris Baptist Medical Center. She will be inurned at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother, her brother James and sister Louise. She is survived by her husband, Pete; daughter Jennifer and husband Greg; son Jeffrey and wife Rachel, of Edmond; her sister Ruth and husband Charles, of Bartlesville; and grandchildren Brennen, Kylie, Allie, Catelyn, and Sophia, of Edmond…and her beloved lapdog, Koda.
Services will be held at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
