Karlene Jo Paulson

Karlene was a devoted mother and grandmother who found her greatest joy in her family. She was especially proud of her sons, Sammy and Matthew, and her grandsons, Zane and Wyatt Paulson. She shared a close and loving bond with her daughters-in-law, Suzie and Erin Paulson, whom she treated as her own daughters.

Karlene loved quilting and cross-stitching, especially Fall and Christmas designs, and took great joy in creating special quilts for her grandsons and other family members. She cherished her time visiting Hawaii, especially the memories made there with her brother, Larry Smathers, and sister-in-law, Kathie Smathers. Karlene retired in 2018 after 28 years with Walmart, where she formed many lasting friendships.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Neal Paulson; her parents, Karl and Arlene Smathers; and her nephew, David Smathers.

She is survived by her sons, Sammy Paulson (Suzie Paulson) and Matthew Paulson (Erin Paulson); her grandsons, Zane and Wyatt Paulson; her brother, Larry Smathers (Kathie Smathers); her niece, Shelley (Sanchez) Richards, who held a very special place in her heart; and her nephews, Steven and Aaron Smathers, and Bobby and Jason Sanchez.

A service will be held Saturday, April 25, at 10:00 a.m. at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Ave., Edmond, Oklahoma.
