The world grew a little quieter with the passing of Katheryn Lynn Ballard Lawrence, a woman whose life was shaped by compassion, curiosity, and a heart that loved her family. Born in Fort Worth as the eldest child of John Lee and Katy Lynn Ballard, Katheryn’s early years were spent living in many states, and in Guam, as her father served as a chemical engineer with the Navy. Those experiences gave her a lifelong appreciation for people, places, and the beauty found in every corner of life.
Katheryn eventually settled in Sherman, Texas, where she raised her three children and built a career dedicated to helping others find their voice—literally and figuratively. With a B.S. in Speech Pathology and an M.S. in Audiology, she served the Texas Department of Education with skill, patience, and a deep love for the children she worked with. Even after retirement, she continued to volunteer in schools and universities, always drawn to the joy of helping young people grow.
Her life changed beautifully when she met Roger Lawrence through their church singles group in Houston. Their marriage was a partnership of faith, creativity, and adventure. They traveled widely, painted side by side, and poured themselves into their church and art communities. Yet Katheryn’s favorite journeys were always the ones that led her to her grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews—her heart’s truest destinations.
Katheryn was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Patty Ballard Huff and husband Tommy Ray Huff Sr.; her brother John Lee Ballard III and wife Glenda Coleman Ballard; and her cherished daughter Patricia (Trisha) Leigh Stone Menta.
She leaves behind her husband Roger; her children Wanda Huff and Tommy Stone; her brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Susan Ballard; and extended family including Rachael and Brandon Alessi and family, Ryan and Khristina Ballard and family, Briana Coleman, Elayn Coleman, Patrick & Joan Oshaughnessy and family, Scott Lawrence and family, Andrew Lawrence and family, and Terry Lawrence and family.
Katheryn’s life was a canvas painted with love, service, and grace. Her legacy will continue to shine through the many lives she touched.
