Kay Brown Powell

Our beloved sister Kay Brown Powell left this world on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Kay was born on December 27, 1947, in Enid, Oklahoma. She grew up in Pioneer, Oklahoma, where she lived until leaving for Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma. She graduated in 1970 and later received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma. Kay taught special education for fourteen years at Taft Middle School and for ten years at Telstar Elementary in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by Daniel Powell, her husband of 45 years; by her parents, Max and Georgia Brown; and by her brothers-in-law Blair Cunnyngham and Mike Frantz.

Kay is survived by her son, Brian Clark; her sisters, Maxine Cunnyngham, and Debbie Frantz; her stepchildren, Patrick Powell, Olivia Powell, and Bill Powell; her nephews Chris Cunnyngham, and family; Travis Frantz and family; and Brandon Frantz and family.

Services are scheduled for 10:00am, Monday, December 22, at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
