Larena Mae Kroeker Krewall, age 86, passed away Monday, April 6, following a battle with cancer.
Larena was born on November 25, 1939, in Cordell, Oklahoma, to Sam and Lydia Kroeker. She attended Corn Bible Academy and earned a degree in education from Southwestern State College. She later completed her Master of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma in 1985.
In 1959, Larena married Melvin Krewall, and together they made their home in Snyder, Oklahoma, where Melvin taught school and coached football. The family later lived in Cordell, Roosevelt, Moore, and returned to Cordell. They were blessed with two sons, Melvin Jr. and Michael. Larena and Melvin divorced in 1983.
Larena devoted her professional life to teaching elementary education, serving students in Roosevelt, Deer Creek, and Clinton, Oklahoma. In 1989, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, following the birth of her first grandchild. While in Texas, she continued teaching in the Keene, Burleson, and Birdville school districts. She retired from education in 2005.
From 1992 until 2019, Larena lived in Fort Worth with her son Mel and his wife Jill. In 2021, she moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, to be closer to her son Michael, his wife Shannon, and their children and grandchildren.
Larena was a woman of deep faith who walked daily with Jesus. Church was central to her life, and she remained a faithful attendee until her health no longer allowed. She was a member of the Travis Avenue Baptist Church PraiseSingers, with whom she was blessed to travel to Europe and visit many historic cities. Larena was also a skilled seamstress, creating clothing, quilts, and other sewn items over many years. She especially enjoyed needlework, embroidery, and cross‑stitch. Above all, she was deeply devoted to her family, particularly her grandchildren.
Larena is survived by her son Mel Krewall and daughter‑in‑law Michelle of Tucson, Arizona; her son Michael Krewall and daughter‑in‑law Shannon of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandson Jesse Krewall of Edmond and his wife Megan, and great‑grandson Reid; grandson Joshua Krewall of New Haven, Connecticut; granddaughter Amanda Krewall Milic and her husband Svetislav of Oklahoma City, and great‑grandson Matia; granddaughter Emily Krewall Reeves of Burleson, Texas, and sister Diane Kroeker Mauch and her husband Ron Mauch. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Sam and Lydia Penner Kroeker and her grandparents.
Honorary pallbearers are Mel Krewall, Mike Krewall, Jesse Krewall, Joshua Krewall, Svetislav Milic, and Zach Mauch.
There will be a viewing for friends and loved ones at Matthews Funeral Home on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel at 10 am on Saturday, April 11, 2026 in Edmond, OK.
