Larry William Buchanan
1949-2021
Larry William Buchanan was born September 14,1949 and left this earth November 7, 2021. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He grew up in several locations as a young child he lived in Mangum, and Cashion before the family settled in Edmond Oklahoma where, he would Graduate from Edmond High School in 1967. As a child and teenager, he always worked on the farm and helped his dad and Uncle lay masonry. In High school he was a part of the FFA and raised and showed sheep.
Once he graduated from High school, he went to Barber Collage to what would become his lifelong career. He worked at the Friendly Barber shop, then Hudman's, which is now called Doc's where he spent the end of his career. He would leave Barbering in the early 80's briefly for the oil field and to drive a truck hauling frack tanks. He also briefly worked construction in the late 80's in California but returned home to Oklahoma to cut hair for the rest of his career.
Larry was married twice in his life. First to his High school sweetheart Shirley Benedict. They had one daughter Misty Dawn. Larry Married a second time to Sandra Brookes they would be married for 38 years at the time of his passing.
Larry always loved to hunt and fish. In his younger days he raised German short hair bird dogs for quail and pheasant hunting. He had grown up fishing farm ponds and the rivers of Oklahoma. For his 70 th birthday Misty and he went striper fishing at Texoma with a guide. They enjoyed it so much they went back for Misty's Birthday. But mostly they enjoyed the time spent together weather they caught something or not since Larry had taught Misty to fish almost from the time she could walk.
Larry had also taken up watching NASCAR on TV and was a Tony Stewart fan. Misty and he had attended Races at Kansas and Texas. They would also go to Tulsa to the Chile Bowl when their favorite driver was in town.
Larry is survived by his wife Sandra Buchanan of Oklahoma City, OK, daughter Misty Buchanan of Edmond, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Annie Buchanan, Brother Lloyd Buchanan, and sister Arlene Martin. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Matthews Funeral Home.
