“His Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” ~ Matthew 25:21

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Larry Wayne Hughes. Larry was born on May 18, 1943. He was the proud son of Robert Earl Hughes and Virginia Lucille Hughes (Collier) and brother to Arthur Francis Hughes (Betty Hughes), all who preceded him in death.

As a graduate of J.E.B. Stuart High School’s class of 1961, Larry’s curiosity, intellect and sense of duty led him to serve his country in the United States Air Force, working in intelligence and stationed for a time in Berlin, Germany.

After returning stateside, Larry pursued business studies at Northern Virginia Community College. In June 1967, Larry married the love of his life, Susan Grensavitch. They later settled in Herndon, VA while raising two children and where he built a long, successful career as a salesman, broker, and estimator for several respected printing firms. His natural charisma, integrity, and sharp wit earned him not only professional success but lifelong friendships.

In 1999, Larry and Susan moved to Virginia Beach, VA, where they spent another 25 wonderful years together. Larry found joy in music, reading, playing board games, card games, horseshoes, darts, cornhole and bowling. He took pleasure in the beauty of everyday life and could often be found in the garage painting the metal sculptures that brightened Susan's flower beds or watching the eagles that made their home in the neighborhood. In September 2024 Larry and Susan relocated to Oklahoma City, OK, after a visit with family turned into an unexpected new chapter.

Larry’s life was one of devotion, friendship, hard work, and faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love and an example of how to live with grace, humor, and generosity of spirit. Above all, he was a family man; sincerely devoted to his wife Susan, his two children, Melissa Lynn Shriver (Bill Shriver) and Christine Renee Long, grandchildren, Joseph Wolfenbarger, Michael Wolfenbarger (Jessica Wolfenbarger), Brianna Games (Bryce Games), Macy Jayne Cook, Tristan Long, and great-grandchildren Miles & Caitlynn Wolfenbarger and Bjorn & Ronan Games.

Larry also held a special place in his heart for his cousin Jack Collier, niece, Julie Hughes and nephew, Kevin Hughes (Michele Mack Hughes). He is lovingly remembered by Margaret Hash Mancia (Alfredo Mancia), Jasmine Vang-Oktabinski, Joab Jasso, along with friends and extended family members, each of whom brought joy and light to his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026. Details will be shared with family and friends once plans are finalized. Flowers and cards may be sent to the family at:

2525 NW 62nd St, #112, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
