1938 – 2025

Larry Ross Young was born November 17, 1938 in Springfield, Missouri to Lela Mae and Ross Edwin Young. He finally got his wish to meet Jesus on January 8, 2025 after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was raised in Springfield, Missouri, and then moved to Oklahoma where he graduated from OKC Northwest Classen High School in 1956. He married Beverly Leota Ramsey on August 24, 1957.  Larry received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Central State College in 1960. He began his career as an insurance salesman with Allstate in a Dallas Sears store and retired from CNA Insurance as a Senior Vice President.

Larry loved to travel with his family, play golf, play cards and dominoes. He liked to fish, hunt, watch his St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, and the OKC Thunder. He would even cheer for the Houston Astros. His biggest passion was serving others locally and abroad. Larry went on mission trips to Honduras and Haiti numerous times. He spearheaded activities to raise money for the people of Haiti and organized the Joy Box program for Hope for Haiti's Children. He planned annual Branson trips for his Bible class, began a Sunday church service for the Veraden retirement community, and volunteered for U R Special. He told every person he met that Jesus loved them.

Larry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beverly; his son Mark and wife Sherry; son Mike and wife Shelley; his daughter Tammy and husband Tim. He had 10 grandchildren: Andrew Young, Alex Young, Adam Young, Alison Young, Atticus Young, Lance Young, Jr. and wife Cattie, Chris Young, Casey Pollard and husband Justin, Katie Marchant and husband Luke and Callie Lucas and husband Garrett. He had 9 great-grandchildren, Easton, Holden and Ellis Pollard, Walker and Carter Marchant, Jack and George Lucas, James and Lance Michael Young III, sister-in-law Valerie Young, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sandy and Jack Montgomery and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack Young, of Eagle River, AK.

A celebration of Larry's life will be at Edmond Church of Christ, 801 S Bryant, Edmond, OK 73034 on January 13, 2025 at 2:00pm. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00pm preceding the service. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 North Kelley, OKC, 73131.

Flowers can be sent to Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S Kelly, Edmond, 73034. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope for Haiti's Children at www.hopeforhaitischildren.org or Haiti Christian Development Project at www. hcdp.net .

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025 at Edmond Church of Christ, 801 S Bryant Ave, Edmond, OK 73034. Services will be live streamed and can be watched by clicking here .
