Lawrence “Larry” Rankin

January 27, 1939 — February 18, 2025

Lawrence "Larry" Rankin, a loving father and grandfather passed away on February 18th, 2025 at the age of 86. Larry was born to Guy Rankin and Mae Rankin on January 27th, 1939 in Oklahoma City, OK. Larry was raised in Edmond. After graduating from high school, he pursued his college education at Central State College. Larry served his country in both the Air National Guard and the Army Reserve. He met his wife, Sharon Rankin at the Wesley Foundation while in college. They were married in 1963 and spent 57 years building a life together. They raised 3 children: Shawn, Guy (Lisa) and Robert (Jennifer), and 8 grandchildren: Nicha, Laney, Chantz, Colby, Braden, Makenzi, Andy, and Jake.

Larry spent some time moving around before resettling in Edmond to raise his family. He lived in Arizona, Wisconsin, and Iowa. He made many good friends along the way that he stayed in contact with. Larry retired after working for many years at the University of Central Oklahoma. He served as the Director of the Physical Plant ensuring that the facilities at the college were all maintained and running smoothly.

Larry spent many days and hours researching his family genealogy. His research lead him to an interest in the Rankin Scottish and Irish heritage. He participated in clubs and event celebrating this heritage. He also enjoyed his time volunteering for the Edmond Historical Society. Larry will be remembered warmly by everyone he loved.

His family will have a celebration of a life well lived at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22nd at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, Oklahoma.
