Lee Philip Hunt
1939-2014
Lee P. Hunt was born February 28, 1939 in Muskegon, Michigan to Philip and Ruth Stromsta Hunt. Lee was the oldest of four boys (Lee, Gale, Gary and Craig) and was preceded in death by Gale and Gary. He married Karen Jean Falkowski April 24, 1965.
He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry from Michigan Technological University, and a PhD in physical chemistry from Iowa State University. Lee's professional work focused on solar photo-voltaics, and he became both a published author in this field and his expertise was highly sought nationally and internationally. Lee worked in research Labs in Michigan (Dow Corning), New Jersey (Exxon-Mobil), and Oklahoma (Kerr-McGee), from which he retired in 1994. He received a B.A. in 1999 in Pastoral Ministry
and was ordained a permanent deacon in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma City where he served the parishes of St. Monica and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edmond until March 2014.
His most rewarding service outside these parishes was to the poor in Piura, Peru, to which he made over ten mission trips to our sister parish Santisimo Sacramento. Lee also served as a founder and executive director of the Good Samaritan Health Clinic of Edmond, Inc., which serves patients with no health insurance.
Lee is survived by Karen, his loving wife of 49 years, and their four children, Stephanie, Lisa, Christopher (wife Alison, children Anna & Connor) and Andrea (husband Patrick, children Thomas, Maria and Rebekah).
The wake will be held 7pm Tuesday, April 22 at the Catholic Parish of St. John the Baptist, Edmond, corner of 9th & Boulevard. The Funeral Mass will also take place at St. John's, 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 23.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lee Hunt may be made to either the Good Samaritan Health Clinic or to St. John Catholic Church to fund a scholarship for children in Piura, Peru to attend Catholic School.
