Lola Fern Jewell Blake
January 3, 1929 – August 6, 2015
Lola Blake was born in Randall, KS on January 3, 1929 to John and Mildred (Newton) Jewell, the second of six children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, parents, two sisters, and two brothers. She passed away on August 6 with her family by her bedside. Lola attended schools in Missouri and Kansas and graduated high school in Augusta, KS in 1945. She married Morris C. Blake on November 6, 1948 in Wichita, KS. She received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Elementary Education from Central State University in 1959 and 1965. She taught hundreds of children in Bristow and Edmond, OK before retiring from Edmond Public Schools in 1987. Lola was a 20 year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She enjoyed working elections for the Oklahoma County Election Board and visiting with all the voters. Her favorite hobbies were traveling, reading and spent much time quilting.
She is survived by her sister, Wanda Ast, of Morris, OK, her son, M. Timothy of Oklahoma City, her daughter, Carol Barker, and husband, Bill, of Edmond, and grandchildren, Claire and Lucas Barker. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, August 11, at Henderson Hills Baptist Church with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Integris Hospice House and their caring and attentive staff.
