Lorene LuEtta Cook

Lorene L. Cook, 84, of Cushing OK went to be with her heavenly Father on May 9th, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Lorene was born in Hoisington, KS on December 23rd, 1941, to Adolph ‘Art’ and Hattie (Bachman) Schmidt. She was a Hoisington High School graduate with the class of 1959. She married her high school sweetheart, Gary Cook, on November 26, 1961. The couple had two children, Kayla Cook Knotts and Kevin Cook.

Exxon moved the family from Hoisington, KS to Perryton, TX in 1974 and finally to Cushing, OK in 1985 where Lorene finished her career as Chief Financial Officer of Cushing Regional Hospital from 1985 to 2001. She retired to spend more time with family after the birth of her first grandchild.

Throughout her life, Lorene exemplified faith, strength, compassion, intelligence, and grace. She always wore a smile. Her leadership, integrity and unwavering commitment earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues, physicians, and staff.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, her greatest joy was her family. She made her home a place of warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Her family will forever carry forward the lessons she taught through both her words and her example.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Art, and Hattie Schmidt, of Hoisington, KS, her son, Kevin Cook, of Edmond, OK and her husband of 49 years, Gary Cook of Cushing, OK. She is survived by her daughter, Kayla (Cook) Knotts of Allen, TX, her grandchildren, Austin and Madison Ussery of Allen, TX, her sister, Jean (Schmidt) Kimber of Hoisington, KS, her brother, Leonard Schmidt of Hoisington, KS and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Those who loved her will always remember her smile, and it will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorene’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m.. to 8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond, OK. Interment is to follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
