Lorraine C. Varey
1920-2014
Lorraine C. Varey, of Edmond, Ok., died peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. She was born Feb. 16, 1920 in Harrah, Ok. to Clyde and Ruth Craiger. She graduated from McLoud High School and attended Oklahoma A & M. for one year. On April 28, 1942 she married Clarence G. Varey and had 63 years together. Lorraine was very active in high school playing basketball all four years. She was a dedicated wife and mother always giving her best to her famiy, friends, neighbors and church. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church, the Women's Society of Christian Service, Edmond's Mothers Club, the OSU extension homemakers club, served on the Oklahoma County Election Board, and was a member of the OKC Retired Persons Travel Club.
Lorraine loved people and loved sharing her homemaking talents with them. She entertained her clubs, card and dominos groups and relatives continually. She served faithfully in her church on the wedding reception committee and various other positions. She was loved for her brilliant smile and positive attitude. Her mottos for life were "live one day at a time", "keep on loving" and "accept everyone as they are."
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, two brothers Clyde and Bob, and one sister Evelyne. She is survived by one brother Kendall, three daughters and their husbands; Margaret and Mike Hazelip of Owasso, Ok, Jane and Gary Manwell of Harrah, Ok, Susan and Andy Huston of McKinney, Tx, three grandsons; Mark and Shari Manwell of Ada, Ok, Brian and Laura Manwell of Edmond, Ok, Dustin and Teema Huston of Allen, Tx; four granddaughters, Michelle Hazelip of Edmond, Ok, Melissa and Aaron Troxell of Edmond, Ok, Molly and Jason Kitch of Owasso, Ok, Holly and Adam McNeely of McKinney, Tx, 15 great grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m. on Friday Sept. 26, 2014. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Matthews Funeral home Chapel with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
