Louise Stockton-Duncan
1929-2019
Louise Elizabeth passed away peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 29, 2019.
Louise Elizabeth Burton was born in Seminole, OK on September 18, 1929. She was the middle child of 3 sisters. Louise's job growing up was to keep the house clean while her sisters were to do the cooking. As a result, in later life when you went to her house, it was always spotless but there were no homemade cookies!
During the time of the depression, Louise's father was in control of dispensing rations to people, so their family never went without. He also gave provisions to many families in the area that needed help.
At the age of 16, Louise married Harold Stockton on May 22, 1946. They moved to California as Harold was in the navy. At 17, Louise was in a car accident involving a semi truck. She was so severely injured that a reporter wrote in a newspaper article that it was a miracle that anyone could live. She received the largest insurance settlement at that time in the state of California. At the time of the accident, Louise was pregnant with her 1 st child and as a result, lost the baby. She was in a body cast for a year and was told she would never have children. But God showed her His favor and at 19 she had her 1 st child and went on to have 2 more.
Louise and Harold moved back to Oklahoma where Harold began pastoring and went on to pastor several churches from 1955 to 1977. In Oklahoma, they pastored Asher, Eufaula, Healdton, and Pawhuska. In 1968, they moved to Texas and pastored Borger and Abilene. In 1977, while in Abilene Harold died during a motorcycle accident. Louise and daughter Tabby, then moved to Oklahoma City where her sons, John and Cliff, resided.
During her years as a pastor's wife, Louise took her role seriously and led Sunday School and taught Women's Bible Studies. She loved to get up in the front of the church and she and Harold would sing together. One of her favorite songs to sing was, "Jesus will walk with me."
She also loved dancing with Harold and once Tabby saw them dancing and was shocked to see that they knew how to Jitterbug and Waltz. All she had ever seen them do was to dance in the spirit!
Louise was also a woman who loved fashion and beautiful clothes. She had an eye for all things beautiful, whether it was clothes or décor for the home. And she could shop with the best!
Louise married Robert Duncan in 2002. Louise and Harold and Robert and his wife Lee had been best friends since 1954 and had ministered many times together before Harold and Lee went to be with the Lord.
Louise loved watching all sports, but especially OSU football and basketball. She could name players and their positions and the coaches in college and pro sports. If you went to her house on the weekend, you could be sure there would be some kind of game on the TV.
Louise also had an amazing memory and recall of names and dates and past events. In the last few weeks of her life, she was remembering the dates and days of the week that her family members were born on.
But Louise's greatest legacy that she leaves behind with her family was her role as a mighty prayer warrior. Everyone in the family knew if you had a prayer need that you wanted answered, she was the one to pray for it. She and Brother Duncan could touch heaven like no other!
Louise was a beautiful person inside and out and will be greatly missed by her husband, Robert Duncan and her children John and Jan Stockton, Cliff and Diane Stockton and Tabby and Steve Berry.
She also leaves behind her step-children, Frank Duncan, Cindy Green, Robin Duncan and Bobby Duncan.
She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Clint and Becky Stockton, Staci and Paul Swales, Trent and Laura Stockton, Tiffany and Spencer Hunt, Joshua Brown, Candace and Ben Williams, and Russell Berry.
Also her great grandchildren, Morganne and Beau McCune, Rylee and Harrison Swales, Connor, Brantly, and Kailey Stockton, and Josey and Evelyn Williams.
