Lyle Vern Harrold

1928 – 2019

Lyle Vern Harrold was born 6-26-28 in Tracy, Oklahoma to Virgil and Addie Cochran Harrold (MOM and POP) Lyle was the seventh child born to Virgil and Addie.

He went to school at Edmond Normal School and at age 17 he left high school to follow his brothers who had served in the military. Lyle served in the United States Army in Japan during World War II.  While in Japan he was assigned to guard the summer palace of the Emperor of Japan located in Kamakura.

When he returned from serving in the Army, he married Betty Nance and they had one daughter, Renita Jo.  He then married Cherry Hamilton and with that marriage they had Dian, Howard, Brenda and Tammee.

Harrold Brothers Oil Service was a family company that he and his brothers worked for until Lyle went in to business for himself and formed Harrolds Dozer Service. Lyle helped with the developing of many housing additions and roads in Edmond and surrounding communities.

Lyle was the last of the Harrold brothers and was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and one sister; Bryson, Hope, Orville (Dinger), Abner, Dale, and Burnett and Cherry, his wife of 52 years, son Howard and grandson Dutch Lesseg. He is survived by daughters; Renita Jo and Robert Adams, Dian and Allan Heyland, Brenda Miller, and Tammee Lesseg all of Edmond, OK.  Lyle has eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He leaves behind many friends. Lyle met daily at Virginia's Café for coffee and to aggravate all of the employees.  He was known for his sense of humor. Once he welded a co workers lunch box shut and he also greased the interurban tracks so it couldn't run, but I was told he got caught and had to clean up the grease.  Dale and Lyle put a car on the railroad tracks and drove it to Guthrie.  I am sure there are lots of antics that he didn't share with everyone.

Services will be held at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 15 th at 2:00 p.m.
