It was the ninth day of September in 1933 that a little baby girl made her appearance in Chickasha, Grady, Oklahoma. Just what her father needed – another mouth to feed and a female one at that. I was the third daughter of Robert and Beulah Josephine Fields Davis. The first daughter was born and died the same date, August 5, 1930. We always called her Baby Davis. The second child was Patsy June Davis, born January 29, 1932. She died September 16, 2011.
I went to the following schools:
West School, South School, St. Joseph Academy, Chickasha High School, Oklahoma College for Women, and Sunset School. All were in Chickasha except Sunset School which was in Hayward, California.
I worked at the following:
Washita Theatre, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a Telephone then a Service Representative; First National Bank in Norman, Oklahoma, Liberty National Bank in Oklahoma City, as a Vice President and Manager of Installment Loans Operators. This was the day when women were not officers. Then for Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in New Jersey as an Investigator. I retired in May of 1995.
On March 22, 1958, I married Edward Price Stuart of Franklin, Kentucky in Simpson County. This marriage ended January 17, 1974. When I was 75, I married Jay Douglas Clawson of Ogden, Utah in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Temple.
I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 21, 1981, and got my Endowments on January 31, 1983. As a member of the Church, I held many callings. Some of my callings were: Extractor (for 25 years), Relief Society President (twice), Family History Librarian, Family History Teacher, Ward Missionary, Stake Missionary, Ward Employment Specialist, Stake Employment Specialist; Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Temple Worker, and Supervisor (11+ years).
The happiest time of my life has been these last seven years. Jay has been a good husband and even if I don’t tell him too often, he is the love of my life and treats me like a queen. I just wish he had known me when I was young and a lot sharper than I am now. He doesn’t know what he missed. Ha.
