Marie Chancellor Christy

1919-2016

Marie Chancellor Hawkins Christy, 97, was born February 12 th , 1919 to William and Anna Hawkins in Middlesboro, KY. She passed away December 25, 2016, in Edmond, OK.

Marie's early work life revolved around WWII. She was a Civil Service employee at Camp Lee in Petersburg, VA, then at Camp Picket, VA., working with the Army Engineers who built the camp. Marie took off with a girl friend to Stuart, Fl. and Camp Murphy and from there she moved to West Palm Beach, Fl. and took a position with the Air Transport Command, Counter Intelligence Division. She rented a room in Palm Beach from two ladies who were quite excited for Marie to meet the nice young man upstairs who had just returned from serving in the European Theater of Operations where he was awarded a Bronze Star. John Richard Christy (Jack). The rest was history!

Jack and Marie married in West Palm Beach, lived in Pennsylvania for a year then moved to Shreveport, La. where all the little Christy's were born. Before first grade they moved one more time to Hobbs, NM, where the Christy children were raised. After Jack's death Marie moved her parents to Hobbs for a short while then they all moved to Round Rock, TX to be near her sons and grandchildren.

One of Marie's favorite jobs was working at the Round Rock Public Library. She particularly loved the Children's Programs and enjoyed her co-workers immensely. Marie was very active in the parish of St. William's Catholic Church. There she was most proud of her involvement with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Most of all Marie enjoyed people coming to visit her and sharing her swimming pool. She loved teaching her grandchildren how to swim. Neighbors were always welcome. Marie also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and anything else crafty. Those in the family, the church, and her circle of friends have probably received something made by Marie. She was an amazing seamstress. Marie always had a dog at her feet, or in her lap. Her last dog, Penny, died recently.

Marie is survived by her children Jean and Michael Roselius, Edmond, OK; Jim and Alda Christy of Murietta, CA; Ginny Christy, Round Rock, TX widow of John Christy, deceased 2009; and Michael Christy and friend Connie Cutler of Austin, TX. Marie's husband, John R. Christy preceded her in death in 1979.

Marie's only sibling, Anita Reed Seeger, preceded her in death in 2010.

Grandchildren are Dione Moser, James and Jonathan Christy, Paul Christy, and Michael, Holly, and Rebecca Christy.

Great-Grandchildren are Brett, Zachary, Mason and Brandon, Carly, Mason, Bailey, Michael and Sophia.
