1934-2021

On Monday, March 15 th , Lavinia Barrentine, passed peacefully at the age of 86 in the presence of her family. Lavinia was born on September 5 th 1934 in Greenville, Mississippi, third youngest to a family of six children.  She graduated from the Kings Daughters Nursing in Greenwood, Mississippi with Honors and a RN degree.  She married her military husband, Robert, in 1957, in Germany and was married 64 years.  She raised four daughters and one son, Beverly, Carolyn, Gwendolyn, Robert and Saline.  She loved and was passionate about gardening, cultivating all types of irises and day lily flowers. She was part of the quilting club at the senior center in Edmond, an avid Genealogist, a historian and loved all animals including the red-tailed hawks. She volunteered at Tinker AFB as a Red Cross worker. She was a registrar at the Edmond Museum for eight years, and on the board of the historical 1889 Edmond School house restoration. During the time she was certificated & government bonded she collected the most money for the Cancer Society Drive in Edmond OK.   She was part of the Iris garden club and won many blue ribbons for her flowers in Lawton and Edmond, Ok.  She was on the Historical Board of Restoration of the Mattie Beal House in Lawton, OK. Lavinia, of Episcopalian faith, was preceded in death by her brothers JP, Warren, Howard, Evan, sister Louise and her granddaughter Harlea.  She is survived by her Husband Robert, her 5 children and 3 grandchildren. She was a giving person and kind to all. Her smile and sense of humor was genuine and witty. She was loved deeply by her husband and her children. She will greatly be remembered and missed by all. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 20th at 2:00 pm at Matthews Funeral Home And Cremation Service 601 S. Kelly Edmond, Oklahoma 73003.
