Martha Jane Begin, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023, at the age of 78. Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on January 25, 1945, Martha was the daughter of Shelby and Estalene Tackett. She grew up alongside her older sister Melba Hooten and older brother Ray Tackett.
Martha was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, and was very active in her faith, serving as the wife of both a minister and elder, teaching, attending women's bible studies, encouragement, and benevolence, most recently here in Edmond. Since their first date on March 6, 1965, and their wedding on August 28, 1965, Martha absolutely captivated her husband Jim, and they shared over 58 years of devoted marriage. They would go on to have a son, Eric, and daughter, Julie. She poured herself into raising and educating them in a loving, Christian home. Martha was a proud and doting "Nana" to her 5 grandchildren: Hunter, Josiah, Lily, Lydia, and Chloe.
Martha graduated Magna Cum Laude from Central State College and excelled in her public education career for over 23 years. She instituted a gifted program at Choctaw and worked for Seminole State College providing specialized mathematics instruction to area schools.
Martha enjoyed a variety of hobbies including games and extensive travel. However, she was the happiest when hosting or simply spending quality time with her family.
The family is at peace knowing she is enjoying her heavenly reward and reunion, despite their natural sense of loss.
