Martha Kay Strecker

1946-2017

Martha Kay Briscoe Strecker was born on July 8, 1946 in San Antonio, TX to Carl Issac and Eva Omega Stafford Briscoe. Martha grew up in South San Antonio. She moved with her family to Healdton, OK in her Sophomore year of High School. She thought she was ruined when they drove into the small town but she survived, flourished, loved and graduated as a 1964 Healdton High Bulldog.

Her family moved back to San Antonio after she graduated High School and she went to work for SW Bell Telephone. Once back in San Antonio, she met Airman Alvin (Al) Strecker from Seiling, OK and they were married 6 months later May 14, 1966. To them was born one son Scott Martin Strecker which turned out to be her retirement plan from SW Bell after 15 years. Her family was her life and she was there for their every need.

Once Scott was in school, she volunteered at whatever school he was currently attending. She said it was for the benefit of the teachers, others said it was so she could keep an eye on Scott but most of all she wanted to know what was going on in his life.

Then through an Edmond Women's Club research project, she found her love for serving others at the HOPE Center of Edmond. She served there with her family for 28 years in many capacities. Her favorite job was meeting and helping people in need. She loved to be able to help people, while giving them the respect and dignity they deserved.

She also had a love of the Lord and was a faithful participant in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for over 20 years. She was baptized as a young girl but felt the need to be baptized again because she wasn't sure she really understood the full meaning and commitment the first time. The Lord carried her in His hands during the last 16 months as she recovered from Open Heart Surgery and then falling victim to Carcinoid Cancer. The Lord was faithfully there for the journey and she is in His care now!

She was a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of her Service above Self by the Edmond Summit Rotary Club.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Al, Son Scott, daughter-in-law Kristen and grandsons Johnston and Henry Strecker of Guthrie, Mother Eva Briscoe, Brother Lee Roy, sister-in-law Carolyn of Ardmore, Brother Bob of Modesto, CA and a host of nieces and nephews scattered throughout.
