Mary Lynne Webb

1942-2016

Mary Lynne Norris Webb of Edmond, died December 2, 2016, at AMG Specialty Hospital. Mary Lynne, was born April 27, 1942, in Ponca City, OK, and had been preceded in death by her parents Leonard John Norris and Letha Mae Finch Norris of Tonkawa, OK. She married David Webb in 1962, and they were blessed with a marriage that lasted one month shy of fifty-five years. They raised two sons: Darren Webb of Edmond, and William Webb of Washington, D.C.. Darren is married to Tamara Webb and has three children: sons Braden Webb (14) and Chase McPherson (19), and a daughter Lauren McPherson (14). Will Webb has two children, Shifaa (15) and Malik (13) Webb.

Mary Lynne graduated from Tonkawa High School where she demonstrated early abilities as a student. She was a prize-winning accordionist. She also served as state president of the Future Homemakers and was a delegate to President Eisenhower's White House Conference on Children and Youth. Writing proved to be her forte. Her first letter to the newspaper, addressed to Santa Claus, appeared in the Tonkawa News when she was five. She believed in the efficacy of the handwritten note of sympathy, congratulations, or encouragement.

She graduated from Central State University in 1981, and enjoyed success in her business career at OG&E, North American Aviation, and retired after more than two decades at Wilson Foods as Director of Human Resources. In addition to her professional career, her life centered on Dayspring Church of Christ, a congregation she helped establish, UR Special Clothing Ministries for children, pueblo art, cuisine (she attended chef school), and literature. Her hobbies included reading, bird watching, and growing herbs and flowers. Her sons and husband agree: She was a woman of intelligence and force, but vulnerable and kind; not interested in just giving alms, but an advocate for the abused, poor, and needy; she loved her Lord and did her best to reflect His compassion.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., December 7, 2016, at Dayspring Church of Christ, 400 N. Chowning Ave., Edmond, OK. Matthews Funeral Home will conduct the burial arrangements. Memorial donations may be given to UR Special Children's Clothing Ministry.
