Max was born June 27th, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa the fourth of seven boys to Elmer and Vinita (Barefiled) Methvin.  He joined the Air Force in 1954 in order to "see the world" where he was then stationed in San Antonio, TX.  He did get to a part of this world when he was transferred to Korea before moving on to Japan.  There he met the love of his life, Michie Oishi.  After returning to the states and ever being the romantic, Max asked Michie to marry him because he was spending a fortune calling her from the US.  They married on the 9th of January, 1962.  After spending some time as a barber, Max became a residential real estate developer and homebuilder.  Max enjoyed playing golf, cards, and shooting pool, but his favorite hobby was sitting around a table with coffee and good friends, telling stories, cracking jokes, and bragging on his children and grandchildren, who could do no wrong.

He was preceded in death by parents Elmer and Vinita Methvin, his brothers John Methvin and wife Kie, David Methvin, and Frank Methvin. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Michie, son Mark Methvin and his wife Sherri, daughter Mia Rops, his grandchildren Courtney Exendine and her husband Craig, Carter Methvin, Madelyn Rops (Maddie), and Molly Rops.  He is also survived by his brothers Paul Methvin and wife Elizabeth, Gene Methvin and wife Barbara, and Jerl Methvin and wife Claudia, as well as a large extended family.
