Mike Hensley
1946-2019
William Michael Hensley was born December 9, 1946 in Oklahoma City, OK, to Eugene Columbus Hensley and Pauline Eunice Palmer. He grew up in Oklahoma City and Del City, eventually graduating from Del City High School in 1965.
While attending school, Mike earned a reputation as an outstanding athlete, eventually earning varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation he was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals to play in their minor league system. While playing for the Cardinals he was inducted into the Del City High School Hall of Fame. He played with the Cardinals until departing for other adventures. Nevertheless, he always remained a Cardinals fan, so much that the family referred to the team as "Mike's Cardinals." Always a fan of the red and white, he was also a staunch supporter of OU Football.
In May of 1972 he married Janis Keenan and together they had one son, Jason Hensley.
Mike worked at Locke Plumbing for over 20 years as a plumbing manager and in contract sales. But for all his jobs and adventures, his greatest passion was Christian ministry. Whether serving a church, working as a traveling evangelist, playing or refereeing on a sports field, or serving customers in the store, Mike saw himself above all as a minister of the gospel, and as such touched many lives.
He was proceeded in death by his father, mother, and his partner, Sandy Austin.
He is survived by one son, Jason Hensley and wife, Christa Uhland, of Oklahoma City, one grandson, Kaysn Hensley, two step grandsons Jake Uhland and Cruz Uhland, two step granddaughters Lauren Uhland and Olivia Uhland, a son of the heart, Colin Berry and his wife Valerie, daughter Audrey and a daughter of the heart, Kim Knight and her husband Billy and daughters Parker and Lilly.
He is also survived by his brother, Pat Hensley and his wife, Felecia, of Anadarko, a niece, Elizabeth Sughrue and her husband, Patrick, of Edmond, and a nephew, Alex Hensley, of Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rhema Word Partners. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Hope Church, 3100 N. Meridian, Oklahoma City, OK.
