1952 – 2023 Edmond, Oklahoma.
Mitchell Monroe Leonard was born in Dodge City, Kansas on December 31st, 1952, to Arthur W. Leonard and Eileen M. Leonard. Mitch was raised in Dodge City and graduated from both Dodge City High School and Saint Mary of the Plains college. Mitch remained a resident until the closing of the family business Leonard Tire, Inc on 2nd street. Mitch owned Leonard tire until its closure in 2015 after 100 years. He raised 5 beautiful children with his wife Virginia. He resided in Dodge City until his retirement from Burlington Northern Santa Fe. When his first grandchild was born, he moved to a small farm in Edmond, Oklahoma, where he raised two wild rescue mustangs and some chickens. Mitch enjoyed spending his time traveling with his wife, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and doing chores on his farm. He loved taking his grandchildren for tractor rides on his big blue tractor and playing in the dirt pile. Mitch enjoyed fishing, rafting, gardening, and drinking his morning coffee. His true passion was his daily chores, taking care of his property, and feeding his animals. He enjoyed taking trips with his wife, with whom he celebrated 40 years of marriage recently.
Mitch is survived by his wife Virginia West, their children Mitchell, Amanda, Michael and his wife Anna, Victoria and her husband Michael, and Matthew and his wife Jorden, and their grandchildren Jack, Wade, and Eileen. He is survived by his siblings Randy Leonard, Gretchen Steffen, and proceeded in death by his Mother Eileen Tenbrink, Father Arthur Leonard, brother Artie Leonard, and Janie Leonard.
Mitch will be incredibly missed by anyone who knew him, especially his family.
Memorial service will be at Matthews Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Please, casual attire only.
