Monica Ann Mahon

Monica Ann Mahon, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and faithful servant of God, passed peacefully into eternal life on July 17, 2026, in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the age of 90.

Monica was born on March 18, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, to John and Hazel Owens. She was the middle daughter of three sisters, joining Eileen and Janice, both of whom preceded her in death. Monica remained deeply connected to her family roots throughout her life and carried her Brooklyn spirit, pride, and warmth wherever she went.

On August 6, 1955, Monica married the love of her life, William J. Mahon, who preceded her in death on September 25, 2010. Together, Monica and Bill built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, friendship, and service. Their journey together took them from the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, New York, to Lindenhurst, New York, Towaco, New Jersey, and finally to Edmond, Oklahoma.

Wherever they lived, Monica and Bill created a home where people gathered, friendships flourished, and everyone was welcomed. Their kitchen table became a place of laughter, celebration, conversation, and connection—a place where there was always room for one more.

Monica is survived by her son, Michael F. Mahon, and his wife, Diane, whom Monica and Bill loved dearly. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Kimberly Meade and her husband, Kyle; Courtney MacDonald and her husband, Tyler; and Ryan Mahon and his wife, Kristen. Her greatest joy in later years came from her great-grandchildren: Nolan, Liam, MaryKate, and Auggie. She also leaves behind beloved extended family and countless friends whose lives were enriched by her love, generosity, and friendship.

Professionally, Monica enjoyed a successful career with Time Inc. in New York and New Jersey, followed by a distinguished career in real estate. Her career capstone came as Director of Human Resources for LCS Industries in Clifton, New Jersey. Following the company’s acquisition by a multinational corporation, Monica’s responsibilities expanded as Regional Director of Human Resources, overseeing operations across multiple states.

Monica retired at the age of 70 after a remarkable career in which she broke barriers as a female executive while remaining true to what mattered most to her—people. Human Resources was her calling. She had a rare ability to listen, encourage, mentor, and bring out the best in those around her.

Faith was a cornerstone of Monica’s life. During her years in New Jersey, she was a devoted parishioner of Saint Pius X Catholic Church in Montville, where she was an active member of the community for nearly 40 years. After moving to Edmond, Oklahoma, she continued her faith journey at Saint Monica Catholic Church.

In retirement, Monica dedicated herself to serving others. She volunteered with the church nursery, supported children through the Miracle League at Mitch Park, taught adult literacy, and contributed her time and compassion through the Edmond Woman’s Club. Her service reflected the kindness, faith, and generosity that defined her life.

Monica had an extraordinary gift for making people feel welcomed and loved. She treasured family gatherings, friendships, travel, celebrations, and any opportunity to bring people together. Although Monica never met a purse, a pair of shoes, or a shopping trip she didn’t enjoy, the greatest treasures she collected were the people she loved. In the end, her richest blessings were measured by the number of chairs she could fill around her table.

She taught those around her that the best homes are built not only with walls, but with open doors; not only with possessions, but with generosity; and not by how many people they can hold, but by how many people leave feeling loved.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Monica’s caregivers, clergy, friends, and all those who provided love, support, and comfort during her final years and days.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Monica’s memory: gather family around your table, welcome someone who needs a friend, volunteer in your community, and make room for one more.

Monica lived life fully, loved deeply, served faithfully, and leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, friendship, and love that will continue through all who were blessed to know her.

Public visitation for Monica will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026 at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK. A Rosary service will begin at 8:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church, 2001 N Western Ave., Edmond, OK 73012. Interment will follow at a later date.
