Nancy Simms Alexander

1936 – 2019

Nancy Simms Alexander, 83, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 5,

1936, to Wesley Durrett Simms and Mary Loop Simms. Nancy grew up in Tulsa and was an 1954 graduate of Tulsa Central High School. She then attended the University of Colorado from 1954 to 1958 where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She graduated from the University of Colorado in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Zoology, with minors in Chemistry, Botony and Secondary Education. Nancy then married William (Bill) Albert Alexander, Jr., also of Tulsa, and they remained married until 1986. While married, Nancy and Bill lived in Midland, New Orleans, Houston and finally Tulsa. Nancy had two daughters, Lann Alexander Smith of Katy, Texas, and Sarah Alexander Hall of Edmond, Oklahoma. Nancy was a devoted mother who always supported and encouraged her daughters in everything that they did. Her pride in her daughters was obvious and deeply appreciated. Following her divorce, Nancy went back to school in 1985 at Tulsa Junior College and graduated with an Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy. After graduation, she worked at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa as a registered respiratory therapist until her retirement in 2001. Nancy then moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to be close to family and spend time watching her granddaughters. Nancy had a deep faith and genuine love for God, was always active as a volunteer, teacher and church circle member wherever she lived until her journey with Alzheimer's disease made it impossible to continue. She lived a life rooted firmly in God's everlasting love and firmly believed in the power of prayer. Nancy's family and friends will always remember her ability to be content, gracious and thankful for the many blessings she had even in difficult times and even as she suffered the effects of Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by two daughters, Lann Alexander Smith and her husband Rocky, and Sarah Alexander Hall and her husband Joel, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Nancy passed away on April 6, 2019, at the Timbers Skilled Nursing Center in Edmond, Oklahoma, where she received wonderful and thoughtful care from the nurses and caregivers.
