Nina Margaret Hayes

Nina Margaret Martin Hayes of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on February 24th, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City after a short battle with cancer. She was born January 15, 1949, in Prague, Oklahoma, to the late Juanita June Pevehouse and Hugo Franklin Martin, Jr.

Nina is survived by her son Michael Hayes and wife Angie; nephew Tyson and niece Gabrielle; son Shawn Hayes and wife Tabatha; grandsons Jackson and Parker; daughter Megan Bryan and husband Tim; grandson James of Edmond; nephews Brian Corder of Edmond, and Tracey and Stephanie Corder; grandnephews Michael and Colton of Yukon; and brother-in-law Ken Corder of Edmond. She was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Kay Corder, and her daughter, Sara Lynn Hayes.

She grew up in Stroud until 1963 when the family moved to Hominy, Oklahoma. A 1967 graduate of Hominy High School, she moved to Edmond to attend Central State College, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. After teaching for several years, she returned to Central State University to complete her Master of Education in 1990. Nina taught middle school and high school English and reading across several schools in the Oklahoma City Public School System, including Star Spencer, Eisenhower, Roosevelt Middle School, Frederick Douglass High School, and John Marshall High School, before retiring in 2013.

She was active in the education sorority Kappa Kappa Iota during her teaching career and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa.

A viewing will be held at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond on Sunday, March 1st, from 2:00–4:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City on Monday, March 2nd, at 2:00 PM. Flowers may be sent via Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond.
