The Record of God's Grace in and through the life of Norman Carl Loeber
Norman Carl Loeber, follower and servant of Jesus Christ, devoted husband, father, and friend, was born on August 14, 1921, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Carl Gotthold and Bertha (Beyer) Loeber. He was baptized as a child of God shortly thereafter at the family's Lutheran Church.
He was the youngest of seven children and enjoyed the attention of his six sisters. They had a special bond and Norman acted as a “big” brother to them throughout their lives.
The Loebers moved to Southern California when he was a small boy, and together, persevered through Depression-era challenges. Growing up on a small ranch, Norman developed life-long traits of ingenuity, perseverance, and a strong work ethic.
Norman confirmed his faith on May 26, 1935, at the Lutheran Church in Los Angeles, and graduated from Van Nuys High School in June 1939.
As a young adult, Norman participated in the Walther League group at First Lutheran Church in Van Nuys. There he met his beloved and devoted wife, Sara Ann (“Sally”) Greggo. They were married there on October 22, 1949, and were abundantly blessed through 65 years of marriage, including the gifts of two children, Kenneth Norman Loeber, and Marie Louise (Loeber) White.
The family moved to San Jose, CA in 1956 and resided there until 1979. They enjoyed serving their church, activities with friends, and family travels (via camping and motorhomes) throughout California, the West Coast, and several “See America” trips. In 1979, Norman and Sally moved to Tucson, Arizona and retired there in 1983.
After Sally was called to her heavenly home in 2015, Norman moved to Edmond, OK, and became an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Norman was employed by IBM from 1941 to 1983, with assignments in Southern California, San Jose, and Tucson. His responsibilities included field engineering, product development, research, and project management. He was recognized as an inventor and innovator. He especially enjoyed working on electro-mechanical devices, early computers, data storage memory, ATM terminals, and Braille applications (for which he received national and international recognition). During WW II, Norman's IBM work for multiple defense contractors was deemed “essential to the war effort”, resulting in the deferment of any military obligations.
Motivated by the Holy Spirit and his personal commitment to live out the Great Commission, Norman applied his engineering skills as a volunteer in the ministry of Lutheran Braille Workers for over 80 years. He served as Chief Engineer, Board Member, Ambassador, and Production Center leader. Key contributions included the design and construction of multiple machines used to produce millions of embossed pages of Braille Bibles and other Christian materials.
Throughout his life, Norman was an active member of Lutheran churches and served in many roles, with emphasis on serving members and outreach to the communities.
In his later years, Norman continued to be engaged in Bible study and devotions, his family's genealogy and Lutheran heritage, woodworking projects, supporting faith-based organizations, participating in the Braille Production Center at Holy Trinity, and reaching out to neighbors in his assisted living communities.
After faithful and joyful service to his Lord and Savior and to his family, the Lord graciously called Norman home to heaven, peacefully, on January 30, 2026, at the age of 104 years, 5 months, and 17 days.
Rejoicing in Norman's victory in Christ are his son Ken Loeber, and wife Kathy, of Edmond, OK; his daughter, Marie White, and husband Curtis, of Phoenix, AZ; and his grandchildren, Matthew Loeber, and wife, Carol, of Edmond, OK; Robert Loeber, and wife Carrie, of Jenks, OK; Sara Henson, and husband Mike, of Stillwater, OK; Lily White, and husband Joseph “Jazz” Worrall, of Phoenix, AZ; and Fletcher White, and wife, Kristin Johannessen, of Portland, OR. Family gatherings, especially those including his nine great-grandchildren, brought him joy.
