Paul Edmund McElvany, 94 of Edmond, Oklahoma was born on July 10, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to William Dow and Mattie Goldie (Sams) McElvany and looked upon the face of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Integris Hospice House, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loving family.
Paul married the love of his life, Jeanette Rose Swain, on May 23, 1952, in Meeker, Oklahoma. Together they spent 58 faithful years of marriage together and raised three sons and one daughter.
He graduated from the Oklahoma Military Academy in 1949 and from Central State College with his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1955. Paul began his career with the State of Oklahoma in 1948 as an elevator operator and retired in 1998 as the Director of the Legislative Service Bureau working at the pleasure of Stratton Taylor, Senate President Pro Tempore. At the time of his retirement, he was the longest tenured State of Oklahoma employee with 50 years of continuous service.
Paul found joy in the simple, meaningful parts of life, meeting each day with a resilient and adventurous spirit. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church Edmond, Oklahoma for 61 years, and he was a Master Mason of the Guthrie Masonic Lodge # 35. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing but most loved spending quality, meaningful time with his family and lifelong friends.
Paul's legacy is one of love, friendship, and adventure, and it will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Edmond. Rev. Keith Haygood will officiate. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Richard and Tammy Dugger and the staff of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Elk City, Oklahoma and assisted by Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, Oklahoma.
Cherishing his memory are his two sons and daughter; Rocky McElvany and his wife, Carol, and Matt McElvany and his wife, Shelly, both of Edmond, Oklahoma; one daughter, Vicki Puckett of Edmond, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Robin Turnbull and her husband Jayson of Frisco, Texas, Julie Witherspoon and her husband Ronnie of Houston, Texas, Dr. Matthew McElvany and his wife Juliette of Santa Rosa, California, Johnny Puckett of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jessica Hendrix and her husband Drew of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Alyssa McElvany of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lauren Mann and her husband Chris of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Logan McElvany of Newport Beach, California; seventeen great grandchildren; and five great, great grandchildren, along with many other loving relatives and devoted friends.
Paul is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette R. McElvany; his parents, Dow and Mattie McElvany; son, Dr. Dean McElvany; daughter in law, Linda McElvany; grandson, BJ Puckett; and his brother, W.L.(Dub) McElvany.
