Philip Raymond Courtin

The Memorial Service for Philip “Phil” Raymond Courtin, 74, of Edmond, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday July 17, 2026, at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation and arrangements are by Matthews Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Phil was born May 26, 1952, in Rochester, MN to Raymond Frank and Anne (Symonds) Courtin and met his heavenly father Wednesday July 8, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Phil grew up in Dallas, TX where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1970. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1972. Over his 33 years of service, he climbed the ranks in the U.S. Air Force as well as in his higher education. Phil obtained his Bachelor of Science from Park College, in 1983. Although he bled orange, he later received his Master’s in Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1996. Phil always maintained a 4.0 GPA, but who was keeping track.

U.S. Air Force Major (Ret.) Philip Raymond Courtin, served in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile career field, and was stationed globally anywhere from California, Montana, England, Oklahoma, and Germany. During Major Courtin’s three decades of service, he contributed to the operational readiness and logistical excellence of the U.S. Air Force. He was highly distinguished and accomplished, receiving many commendations, medals, and achievements. A few notable mentions are: Air Force Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Senior Level Missile Operations Badge of Honor. In 2004 he received the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, which is the highest honor, a prestigious military decoration awarded to careerist service members who distinguish themselves through outstanding meritorious achievement and served as his permanent change of station and retirement award. Upon his retirement he settled back in Oklahoma.

After serving his country for so many years, he couldn’t resist his love of teaching and pouring into others. Phil became an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies at Texas State University, Senior Aerospace Science Instructor and Mathematics Instructor at Booker T. Washington High School and even coached the Oklahoma State University Women’s Golf Team for a few years.

In 2016, Phil married the love of his life, Vicki Diane Courtin. Phil was the most devoted and selfless husband, always putting others before himself. He was a man of God and loved the Lord with all his heart and was a member of Life Church. You could always find Phil on the golf course wearing America’s brightest orange; with his Life Group friends; at a card table giving everyone a run for their money (it was known the only way to beat him in cards was to cheat); playing dominoes, ping pong or tending to the yard. He loved woodworking, his doggies, watching all sports, anything OSU, the Dallas Cowboys, cooking, and coaching his children in their younger years. Phil loved to talk about his children and all their outstanding accomplishments; he cherished time spent with them and his grandkids. He loved to attend his grandchildren’s events, especially their sporting ones. Phil’s contagious smile, joy, kindness, hugs and sturdy reassurance will be forever missed.

We rejoice knowing he is free from the discomfort and sickness in this life and made whole sharing eternity with his Lord and Saviour. We thank you, Lord, for the precious time we had with Phil on earth, and until we meet again, we will hold close to the memories in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Frank Courtin and Anne Symonds Williams, his first wife Karen Sue (Messer) Courtin mother of his 3 children, brother Robert Courtin and sister Sandra Tremellen.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Courtin; his sister Virgina (Ginny) Pope and husband Richard of TX; brother Stephen Courtin of Canada; sister Lueen Francis of England; his 3 children and 9 grandchildren; daughter Angela Courtin and her daughter Phoebe; son Raymond Courtin (wife) Mary and children Brayden, Piper and Brody of TX; daughter Sara Hoover (husband) Creed and children Charley and Jack of TX; stepdaughter Stacie Sawrie and her daughter Sydney of TX, stepdaughter Amy Pralle (husband) Jared and children Karstyn and Jensen of OK; other relatives and many cherished friends as part of our family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, July 17, 2026 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, Edmond, Oklahoma.
