Jeanne Thaxton, loving daughter of Cora Land Bartley, passed away September 11, 2025. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK on April 23, 1944. Jeanne attended all grades through High School in Edmond, OK. Upon graduating from Edmond High School, she attended and graduated from Central State University, now University of Central Oklahoma, with a bachelor's degree in Business Education and a minor in English and obtained her Teaching Certificate.
Jeanne, a lifelong teacher, began her teaching career at Star Spencer High School in eastern Oklahoma County teaching typing and business. After two years, she accepted a position at Edmond Mid High instructing in typing and business. When Edmond North High School opened, she transferred there, instructing typing, business, and careers. Jeanne retired from Edmond North after twenty-six years in the teaching profession.
Upon retiring, she enjoyed the creative arts and attending Broadway shows with her granddaughter, Macey, whom she cherished immensely. Jeanne also adored her grandson, Andrew, and watching him play baseball. When Jeanne was not involved with her grandchildren, she was involved with working with crafts, a passion she always wanted to devote more time to. Also, she enjoyed decorating. Jeanne was very proud of her son, Brent, who has excelled in his career in Golf and is currently Director of Golf at Rose Creek Country Club in Edmond. She was also very admiring and grateful for Brent’s wife Ann. Jeanne enjoyed Ann’s creative spirit and outgoing personality, and she was always ready to assist Jeanne at any time. She was extremely proud of Gene’s successful law enforcement career and his many other accomplishments. Most of all she was always very thankful to the Lord for allowing and enabling her to have such a wonderful and fulfilling Christian life.
After a short retirement break, Jeanne entered the Real Estate profession, obtaining her GRI and CRS credentials. She enjoyed the Real Estate profession and had a very successful career. Jeanne was very grateful to Bill and Charlene Wilson in guiding and helping her as a Real Estate professional.
Jeanne is preceded in death by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by Gene Thaxton, son Brent Thaxton and wife Ann, granddaughter, Macey and grandson, Andrew. She is also survived by her cousin Dixie Buchanan of Tulsa, OK, cousin Jimmy Watson and his wife Debbie and their children, all from Edmond, OK, cousin Jamie Wilkerson of Cyril, OK, cousin Bob Chastain of Boulder, CO, cousin Diane Daffer of Oklahoma City, OK, and many other loved ones and others who have enriched and blessed her life.
Public visitation will be held Monday, September 15, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, OK.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 2:00p.m. at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, OK.
