Richard Alan Bergen departed this world on July 12, 2026, at his home in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Richard was born on December 9, 1958, in Clinton, Oklahoma to John Richard and Mary Bergen. He loved working on cars and beginning at the tender age of 17 he built his first car. After graduating from high school in 1976 he attended Okmulgee Tech. Later, he was employed with the Department of Public Safety for 28 years in the transportation department. Richard’s adventurous spirit led him to experience with an open heart to enjoy music and cars. He loved his years of working with automobiles and music, making many good friends. Some of the last days Richard enjoyed were spent with those friends.
Most importantly, Richard was a kind and loving son to his mother, Mary. She felt very blessed to have him as her caregiver. They shared many happy years, and he will be truly missed. She will always hold a special place in her heart for him.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, John, and will be with him and with the Lord.
As we bid farewell to Rich, we remember that he lived a life filled with love, generosity and adventure. His legacy will live on in the hearts of the many friends he touched with his compassionate spirit. Rest in peace, you will be remembered fondly.
A funeral service for Richard Bergen will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond, OK. Burial will follow beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, OK.
