Richard Alan Doty

Sep 29, 1943 — Sep 11, 2026

Edmond, Oklahoma

Richard Alan "Rick" Doty, age 82, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on September 11, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Born on September 29, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio, to Robert and Jerene Doty, Rick grew up in Dayton and graduated from Trotwood-Madison High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a dedicated military career spanning more than 20 years. As a Technical Sergeant, he served in Vietnam and supported the Strategic Air Command and NATO during the Cold War. It was during his time in the service that he met the love of his life, Susan. The two were married for 62 wonderful years, building a life centered around each other, their children, and their grandchildren.

After retiring from the Air Force, Rick continued his hard-working spirit with positions at Hertz, Tinker AFB, and Bob Howard Chevrolet. He was also deeply committed to his community, serving as the Commander of American Legion Post 170 in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

An avid and passionate sports fan, Rick cheered fiercely for the OSU Cowboys, Ohio State Buckeyes, OKC Thunder, and Cincinnati Bengals & Reds. For years, his great passion was officiating youth sports, traveling all over the state of Oklahoma to umpire Little League and high school baseball, as well as refereeing high school football and soccer.

Rick truly never met a stranger. Through his military service, his many jobs, his civic involvement, and his time on the sidelines and fields, he left a lasting, memorable impression on everyone he crossed paths with.

All who knew him loved him, and his warmth and spirit will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Doty of Oklahoma; his children, Denis (Darla) Doty of Florida, Scott (Carol) Doty of North Carolina, Chris (Heidi) Doty of Texas, and Cindy (Todd) Attalla of Oklahoma; his sister, Linda (Steve) Craycraft; his cherished grandchildren, Kathryn (John) Schoomaker, Allyson (Chase) Kuhnhausen, Jordyn ( Marc) Tavarez-Doty , Caylyn Doty, Justin (Abby) Doty, John Doty, Brooke (Peter) Mulford, Sophia Doty, Savanah Doty, Anthony Adigun, Tristan Dirksen, Kaleigh Dirksen, Avery Attalla, Maci Attalla, and Lillie Attalla; and his great-grandchildren, Isabela Tavarez-Doty, Samuel Tavarez-Doty, Evelyn Kuhnhausen, Aubrey Cazar-Adigun, Winter Doty, Autumn Doty, Robin Doty, Gunner Doty, Caroline Mulford, and Cate Mulford.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jerene Doty, and his brother, Darrell Doty.
