1930-2014

Richard Earl Howie (Dick) went to heaven 23 Jan 2014 after fighting lung cancer. He was born 3 Apr 1930 in Ardmore, OK graduating from Ardmore High in 1948, then entered the Air Force in 1951 and served for four years in England during the Korean War.

He married his sweetheart Verda Dene Saxon on 22 Oct 1954 then attended the University of Arizona graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineer with High Distinction in1961 and a member of Tau Beta Pi Honors Association.

He moved his family back to Oklahoma to work for Phillips Petroleum for two years then back to his beloved Air Force to work at Tinker Air Force Base as an engineer for 29 years in Federal Civil Service.

He is survived by his wife Verda Dene (Saxon) Howie of 59 years, sister Pat Hargis, brother Mike Howie, sons Vince and Marc Howie, daughter Patricia Hopkins, their spouses, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Loving husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, big brother, uncle, friend, and hero to all, he will be missed dearly.

Services to be held at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly Edmond, OK, 27 Jan 2014 at 2:00 pm.
