Ronald Richmond Hope
1943-2024
Ronald Richmond Hope MD was born August 12, 1943 in Melbourne, Australia to Jess and Noel Hope, he passed away on June 6, 2024 in Edmond, Oklahoma. His quest for knowledge led him into the medical field where he excelled in his studies. He graduated with his medical degree from the Melbourne Medical School at the University of Melbourne. He did residency and fellowships around the globe, ultimately settling in Miami, Florida where he served as a cardiology attending at the University of Miami and the VA Medical Center. Dr. Hope was double boarded in adult and pediatric cardiology, a rarity even today. After a few years, he was recruited to the University of Oklahoma where he developed Oklahoma's first cardiac care unit and was recently named Professor Emeritus. Leaving academia, he developed a very successful private practice at St. Anthony's Hospital. He became a founding member of Oklahoma Cardiology Associates and the Oklahoma Heart Hospital. He wrote many research papers, served on many boards and committees, and received many awards. He was well respected by his colleagues and loved by his patients. His quest for knowledge resulted in him earning master's degrees in philosophy, English Literature and Creative Writing. He loved classical music, opera, writing poetry, collecting coins and stamps, going on walk abouts, and playing chess. He enjoyed dabbling in real estate, business ventures and the role of a gentleman rancher. He was married to Marion Seamons with whom he had four children, James of Melbourne, Australia, Cathy of Edmond, Nick of Enid, and Roanne of Edmond. He had two additional children, Christine of Edmond, and David of Orlando, Florida, with second wife, Dr. Ellen Eagle. Most of all, Dr. Hope loved his children, grandchildren and great grandson. He is survived by his aforementioned children and their families and his sister, Vicky and her children of Melbourne. The family is greatly appreciative for the care provided by his caregivers and hospice. A memorial service will be held at Matthew's Funeral Home in Edmond on Monday, June 10 th at 10am.
