1956 – 2024
Ronald Gene Karther of Edmond, OK, was born December 29, 1956, and passed away on February 15, 2024.
Ronald was born in Poteau, OK to Robert and Erma Karther and was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a graduate of the class of 1975 from Winnetonka High School in Kansas City, MO.
He began working at Purina Mills at the age of 18. He started as a floor sweeper, and retired in 2014 as a Production Manager. Throughout his career while working for Purina, Ron would travel from Missouri to Texas, to Louisiana, and finally settling in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Along the way he fathered four children, Damon, Dariann, Daniel, and Devin. In 2008 he found the love of his life Susan, who he married shortly there after in 2010. Upon marrying Susan, they lived in Edmond, OK with her son Nathan Reed.
Ron was a kind, generous, and selfless person who was always looking to help others. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling with Susan, gardening, carpentry, or any DIY project. In Ron's retirement he and Susan began refurbishing houses, which upon completion, they would then rent out. Ron was very hands on with any project doing much of the work himself. As was his way, he would take the time to patiently teach Susan how to do a lot of the work herself.
He was a prankster and always enjoyed having a good laugh. He loved cooking, canning, grilling, and smoking meat. He enjoyed trying new recipes together with Susan from the haul of vegetables from their garden. As many people know they shared the abundant garden goodies with family, friends, and neighbors.
Ron was at his best when he was with his family. He always made time for his kids, grandkids, and siblings and never missed an opportunity to support them. Ron was loved by friends and family for his sense of humor, willingness to help others, and his child-like exuberance. He was a loving and devoted husband, caring father, proud grandparent, and loyal friend.
He will be forever missed and live on in the ones he loved. He will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others, along with the love he shared with his family.
Ron is survived by his wife, Susan Karther. His children Damon (Ashley) Karther, Dariann (Chris) Ricer, Daniel (Jennifer) Karther, Devin Karther, and Nathan (Rachael) Reed; eleven grandchildren; parents Robert and Erma Karther; siblings Don (Anna) Karther, and Frances (Gregory) O'Rear, many nieces, nephews, and cousins and countless friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel, Edmond, Oklahoma.
